Yoko Ishida - Otome No Policy

This was my first encounter with Japanese music. I was 8 years old and i’ve been watching the second season of sailor moon and there was a terribly cool song at the end. I didn't understand a word, it was shown once a day, there was no Internet at all (it was 1998) and it was impossible to find this song, listen to it separately and you simply couldn’t find lyrics and memorise it. I remember a couple of years later my classmate gave me a VHS cassette with this season that he recorded from his TV since he had the same channel on which Sailor Moon was shown (and i didn’t have it lol) So i used to sit in front of the TV and stop the cassette at each line writing down the lyrics as i heard them using russian letters and syllables. and learned it somehow.

Shiina Ringo - Yatsutsuke Shigoto

Shiina Ringo is also one of the reasons that started my large-scale acquaintance with the Japanese pop of the early 2000s and then my dive into the 80s. I learned the song Kofukuron by heart (and still remember it) but Yatsutsuke Shigoto is probably my fave track of hers. It has always moved me for almost 10 years. I really like that there is a very funny simple synthetic beat with 4/4 kick like it’s a dance track from the 2000s but with quite calm indifferent vocals but surrounded by the absolutely fantastical orchestral arrangement. it’s just gorgeous — all the orchestration touches me so much that I dream of learning to do it the same one day. all the parts of the instruments are so magical, everything is so in place that it all turns the song into a fairy tale.

EXPO - Koi No Hotline

Expo for me is the most important example of freedom of thought to me. The whole album is just great. as far as i know, it seems to be one person who recorded everything. It's amazing how easy and casual and natural it all sounds, while very unpredictable. As if this is not one person, but a real orchestra. This is the level of freedom of expression that I would like reach one day hopefully.

Chakra - Chotto Itaikedo Suteki

Chakra has been my favorite group for a very long period of time. This track is the last one from the Satekoso album. It's funny that the whole album is very atmospheric, and the final song seems to be more like a joke. For some reason, it seems very Russian to me. As if the guys been listening to some funny and ridiculous Soviet music from the 80s and decided to write something of their own. In general, in my ideal world, ГШ should have sounded like this.

Сhiemi Manabe - Untotooku

Untotoku has always been my ideal pop song. In all respects. It seemed to me that this is the pinnacle of production and the concept of a hook. There is an incredible bass, from the very first seconds it enters, it acts on you like a flute on a snake. It is impossible not to obey. It’s very groovy but very gentle. A perfection. All in all, this is a great hook and a great song.

Mariah - Door of the Heart

I downloaded the album at a time when google translator did not really exist yet. So I couldn’t even translate the name etc, I just liked the cover and it was a completely random pick. Turned out that the whole album is brilliant and I can't even choose a single track from it. Yasuaki is a genius. This music is gentle and magical and incredible all at the same time. I remember i was so impressed once i head it for the first time, i almost cried because it was that beautiful.

Akiko Yano - Harusaki-Kobeni

I love Akiko Yano very much, but this song became my favorite quite recently and by accident. My good friend posted a link with the song on the social network, I listened to it again and realized that for me it sounds like a song from some Soviet kids movie, like something from my childhood. Very touching and magical, very intimate and joyful.

Akio Niitsu - Orange Paradox

It's a very cool track that opens the album. The funny thing is that probably only a year after using it in all possible mixes and playing it during all of my dj sets, I noticed that it stops in the middle and starts playing just backwards. AAAAA!

The Bach Revolution - D.E. 108

This is an amazing song. I know almost nothing about it, but the surprising thing is that the lyrics are in Russian and melodeclamated by a Russian person, because there is no accent at all. It is incredibly light, very sensitive and gentle track but at the same time it’s incredibly groovy. Everything is in its place and everything goes and works like a clock. And the text about the inexorably running time.

竹村延和「Murmur Of The Day」
Nobukazu Takemura - Murmur Of The Day

Nobukazu is one of my heroes. What I like most about his music is that, despite the fact that for many it will always be too experimental and florid, it still feels like a real pop. The 10th album is great. It immediately sounds like jazz, clicks and cuts glitchy IDM, pop and academic music. Sounds like a perfect combo to me. Once we were driving through the jungle at night in Mexico listening to this album. it was impossible to imagine a better soundtrack.

Bonus:
Haruomi Hosono- Hotaru

I guess Without Haruomi Hosono, Binasu's album would have been very different. His album “Philharmony” showed me that there’s nothing wrong with putting ambient and songs together in one record. I love this track very much. It is mysterious and a little dark, but incredibly addictive and magical, very fabulous and delicate.
